This was an offshoot of sorts of the more fa- mous Your Hit Parade, which Lucky Strike was cosponsoring at the time on CBS. The idea was to present such “all-time” favorites as Wagon Wheels, Chicago, and Some of These Days with such then-current hits as I'll Be Seeing You. This no doubt would have been just another music show but for one factor: American Tobacco and its feisty president, George Washington Hill.

Hill's favorite selling technique was repetition. He had created a minor sensation with the inter- minable slogan Lucky Strike green has gone to war: this was repeated until Dan Golenpaul of Information, Please had gone to court to get Hill removed as sponsor. Your All-Time Hit Parade was launched with a new gimmick: it would be broadcast from Carnegie Hall, with extensive preshow publicity and, yes, another jingle. The campaign was relentless: day and night, listeners heard the rhyme The best tunes of all have moved to Carnegie Hall.
