Groucho Marx still hadn't found his radio legs when Blue Ribbon Town opened. He was rooted in the slapstick of his movie days, a visual kind of comedy that seldom worked in radio. His scripts were filled with zany one- and two-line gags reminiscent of a Marx Brothers film. At a health resort, he would say, "I'm here for my stomach--have you seen it anywhere?" The style was at least ten years old. One week he'd play a loony scientist, the next a doctor, "but every week he's nuts," one critic said, welcoming the show. John Dunning
