The initial run of The Palmolive Beauty Box Theater was a huge success, drawing an estimated 25 million people in its first year and tapering off sharply thereafter. The series presented some of the most celebrated "serious" singers on the Americal scene and spotlighted the best work of Franz Lehar, Sigmumd Romberg, Oscar Straus, Georges Bizet, Victor Herbert, Rudolph Friml, and Noel Coward. It had decidedly popular soundm making it more palatable to the masses than the Metrolpolitan Opera Broadcasts, which had begun three years earlier.
