To the theme Blow The Man Down, the juvenile adventure serial The Sea Hound first took to the air on June 29, 1942 over the NBC Blue network. The quarter hour Monday through Friday sustainer used a wartime story line to cement a tragile friendship with the United States and their South and Central American neighbors.

The principal character was the ship's cabin boy Jerry, played by Bobby Hastings. The Sea Hound's Captain Silver was portrayed by Ken Daigneau, and in the later half hour series by Barry Thompson. Others in the cast were Alan Devitt who was heard as the aged Chinese scholar Kukai, Walter Vaughn as Tex, both Janice Gilbert and Joyce Hayward as Carol Anderson, and Fletcher the dog as himself.

The Sea Hound put into port in 1944, but returned to the air over the Mutual network during the 1946-47 season with a post-war adventure.

The series again set sail in 1948 for a short-lived series of weekly half hour voyages.
