Bulldog Drummond was a B-grade detective, on the screen and on the air. For the first two months, the series was set in Britain; then Drummond crossed the sea and stepped "out of the fog, out of the ninght, and into his American adventures." THe opening signature was accompanied by hollow footsteps, a foghorn and then two shots! -- three sharp blasts of a policeman's whistle -- and -- another encounter with underworld characters, conterfeitersm and killers. The series had ambiance and was rememvered for years by people who thought it better than it was.John Dunning
