Stars Over Hollywood broke one of radio's strongest prejudices, that Saturday daytime was the ghetto of the schedule. When Paul Pierce, CBS production superintendent on the West Coast, announced plans to launch a star-packed dramatic series on Saturday morning, few observers gave it a chance. Getting movie stars to cooperate at 9:30 A.M. (local time) would be impossible, and no one would listen anyway.

Later, with Stars solidly established as a hit, Pierce would point out that it was the pioneer of Saturday daytime drama. This wasn't quite true -- Lincoln Highway had preceded him by about a year -- but Stars over Hollywood was the one that lasted. It ran 13 years in the same timeslot, with only two changes of sponsor.John Dunning
