The Characters of The Sad Sack were introduced on Frank Sinatra's season finale, June 5. Cartoonist George Baker had been turning out the Yank panels as an editorial feature since June 1942, but the radio show took the Sack on into civilian life. It opened with his discharge from the Army and his return to the apartment house run by crusty Mrs. Flanagan and to his prewar friends. Many of the shows were of his bumbling attempts to impress Lucy Twitchell and her unimpressed father. _{John Dunning}
